Honolulu Jewelry Company roots began in 1966. During the Vietnam war, Philip Johnson a Citadel graduate traveled to Vietnam as one of his first duty stations. After his commitment to the United States military, he stayed in Vietnam representing a diamond dealer back home in New York who needed a man that was honest to represent legitimate diamonds to our troops while staying away from dark channels of diamond distribution.

A few years later, Philip was married, and his new bride Therese moved back to New York while stopping in Hawaii for a Honeymoon. Philip and Therese were drawn back to Hawaii's beauty and decided to move there. With years of jewelry experience, in 1981 they opened a diamond store in the heart of Honolulu.

The location later moved near their residence and their young family in Pearl City as TJ Hawaiian Jewelry. Twenty years later, their son David Johnson has joined the business and has allowed their parents to enjoy an early retirement. Since David has been at the helm, the company has grown from one location to currently eleven with more planned in the future.
