The Story of Classic Hawaiian Jewelry
The tradition begins with a bracelet. In 1887, Queen Victoria of England gifted a gold bracelet to Princess Lili'uokalani during her visit to London, engraved with the princess's name in black enamel. Lili'uokalani brought it back to Hawaii, and within a decade, engraved gold jewelry bearing Hawaiian names had become a marker of cultural identity across the islands. By the early 1900s it was a standard gift for graduations, birthdays, and major life milestones. Classic Hawaiian jewelry carries that generational significance with scroll-engraved pieces in heirloom tradition, still handcrafted here in Honolulu.
Designs in the Classic Hawaiian Collection
The defining element across this collection is the scroll. A flowing engraved pattern rooted in Victorian flourish adapted over the past century into a distinctly Hawaiian visual language. Bracelets, the category's original form, remain central. They are engraved with the owner's name, a meaningful word, or a traditional pattern, in 14K gold or sterling silver. Pendants, rings, and earrings extend the scroll motif further, often combining the engraving with plumeria or other Hawaiian symbols worked into the design. Each piece is available in yellow gold, white gold, and sterling silver.
Craftsmanship
The scroll engraving that defines classic Hawaiian work is done by hand, not machine-stamped. The lines flow and connect in ways guided by generations of traditional Hawaiian motifs and styles refined over time. Pieces are made in solid 14K gold or sterling silver. Custom name engraving is part of the tradition and remains available on heirloom bracelets and select pendants.
