Commonly known elsewhere as “flip-flops”, slippers are an icon of relaxation and respect in Hawaii. Before entering a home it is local custom to remove any footwear at the door. The custom was adopted from the first Japanese immigrants to show respect for the home as well as promote clean living. Slippers are comfortable and perfect for the beach or when you want to unwind with friends. Regardless of what type of footwear you’re using, remember to leave in the pair you came in!
