In Hawaiian mythology there are four great gods which are often represented in tiki; Ku the ancient god of war, Lono god of fertility and peace, Kane the god of light and creation, and Kanaloa the ancient god of the sea. Tiki were carved to embody the mana(power) of that god, used as a medium for spiritual connection and interaction for paying respects.
